From September 27, 2026, it is mandatory for every store – online or physical – to display a harmonized EU notice on the legal guarantee of the products, with a QR code for additional information. If you sell online, this directly affects your product sheets: it is not just a poster for the physical store, it is a text and a link that must also appear on your website.
What exactly does the new regulation require?
- Mandatory harmonized notice: informs that the product has a minimum legal guarantee of 2 years throughout the EU.
- In Spain, 3 years: Spanish law goes beyond the European minimum, so the notice in Spanish stores must reflect that figure, not the minimum of 2 years.
- QR Code: must link to expanded information on the buyer's warranty rights.
- GARAN Seal: it is a new and optional badge that certifies a real extended warranty (beyond the legal minimum) when the manufacturer offers it — it cannot be placed without that extra warranty really existing.
What do you have to do in your online store this week
- Check your product sheets — the warranty notice should be visible, not hidden on a separate policy page.
- Generate or link the QR code to a page with extended warranty information (term, conditions, claim process).
- Do not use the GARAN seal if you do not offer a guarantee greater than the legal one — using it without it being real can be considered misleading advertising.
- Also review your general conditions of sale so that they do not contradict the new notice.
Why this is not just “complying with the law”
A product sheet that clearly shows the guarantee reduces doubts before the purchase — it is exactly the same as what we already mentioned about what a product sheet needs to convert: answer objections before they appear. This regulatory change, well used, is not only a legal procedure, it is an opportunity to generate more confidence right at the moment of deciding to purchase.
Frequently asked questions
Does this also apply to small stores or only to large ones?
Applies to any store that sells in the EU, without distinction of size. There is no exception for SMEs or the self-employed.
What happens if I don't update my product sheets?
It is a regulatory breach that can lead to consumer sanctions, in addition to the reputational risk of a client detecting it and reporting it.
Do I have to generate the QR code myself?
Yes, point to a page of yours (or the official warranty information) that you have prepared; There is no official single generator, so it must be assembled as part of the product sheet.
