If you have a business and for a few months you have been receiving messages from “SEO experts with AI” promising that they will put you first on Google in two weeks, you are not the only one. Right now anyone with a ChatGPT subscription and a LinkedIn template calls themselves an “AI SEO” consultant. And the problem is not the AI: the problem is that smoke is being sold wrapped in a buzzword, and it is difficult for an SME or a self-employed person who does not have time to check every promise to believe it.
Let's get to the point. AI has not changed the rules of SEO. It's still the same game: useful content, well-done technique and real authority. What has changed is that there are tools that do certain parts of the job faster. And there are others that only make the disaster faster.
What really works
There are tasks where AI contributes something tangible, as long as the person using it knows what they are doing and reviews the result. They are not magic, they are time savings in work that was previously done by hand.
Topic research and opportunity detection
Cross-referencing what people are searching for with what is already published, finding gaps in content that no one has covered well, grouping variations of the same search intention... this is data analysis, and AI is fast at analyzing data. There is a real advantage there compared to doing it by hand in a spreadsheet for hours.
Drafts that are then reviewed by a person
Generating a first version of an article with AI so as not to start from a blank page is reasonable. The important nuance: it is a draft, not the final article. Someone with judgment has to review it, correct what is wrong, add real experience and remove the straw that the AI puts in when it has nothing concrete to say. Without that review, it's not content, it's filler.
Metadata at scale
When an online store has hundreds of product sheets, writing each meta title and meta description by hand is a job that no one has time to do well. There, AI helps generate coherent proposals that are then reviewed in blocks, instead of leaving them blank or copied from the manufacturer, which is what usually happens in practice.
What is smoke, and why
This is where you have to be honest, even if it doesn't sell as much in an ad.
“Position 1 guaranteed”
No one controls Google's algorithm, neither with AI nor without it. Anyone who guarantees you a specific position is lying to you or does not understand how the search engine works. You can work to improve visibility, you cannot promise a result that depends on a system that you do not control.
Hundreds of articles without anyone reading them first
There are tools that boast of generating dozens or hundreds of articles per month on autopilot. The problem is that Google has been detecting and penalizing massive low-quality content generated without human supervision for some time. Publishing volume without criteria does not build authority, it destroys it, and also leaves your website full of weak pages that are difficult to clean later.
Replace the strategy with a tool
An AI tool doesn't know who your customers are, what real problem you solve, or why someone should trust your business over your competitors. That's still strategy work, done by a person who knows your sector. AI can execute parts of that strategy faster, but it can't replace it, and anyone who tells you otherwise probably hasn't executed an SEO strategy in their life.
So what do we do with this?
The reasonable thing to do is to use AI for what it is: a tool that speeds up specific parts of the job, not a substitute for judgment. Research and analysis benefit a lot. The editorial office benefits if there is human review behind it. And the strategy, which decides what is published and why, is still a matter for people who understand the business.
At Nooria we put this approach into practice when we work with SMEs and freelancers who do not have the time or equipment to do everything by hand: we use AI where it really contributes and we review by hand what AI cannot judge on its own. If you want to see how we approach it, here we explain How do we integrate AI into SEO without going up in smoke?.
In the end, the question you have to ask yourself when someone sells you “SEO with AI” is not whether they use artificial intelligence. It is whether behind that tool there is a person with judgment reviewing what comes out. If the answer is no, you are not buying SEO, you are buying volume, and volume without criteria sooner or later takes its toll.
